The 50th anniversary of RECOPE
SA´s creation is celebrated this year
(2013). It´s development begins
with the Legislative Assembly´s
approval of an industrial contract
to build Limon´s refinery on the
28th of June, 1963. It is important
to emphasize the value of a mixed
state-private enterprise system
in Costa Rica that has allowed
an uninterrupted supply of fuel
during the last five decades of
national history.
No other country in the region has
the fuel supply and distribution
system that has been developed
by RECOPE. It is adapted to
present and future needs and
guided by the vision of forever
being a pillar of competitiveness
in Costa Rica.
In addition to funding the
construction of the Atlantic Dock,
that is governed today by the
Atlantic Port Management Board
(JAPDEVA), RECOPE has storage
facilities and sales networks
that are interconnected by a
pipeline network running from
Moin (in Limon) to Barranca in
Puntarenas. This is unique in the
region. The pipeline pumps fuel
